To begin with - education is a huge and ambitious subject to get started on, but nevertheless an important topic that every human being - in one way or the other will be exposed to. Education encompasses all the experiences in which a person can learn something. In other words: education is any knowledge obtained theoretically or practically – informal or formal.
Formal education is classroom based while informal happens outside the classroom. So, informal education could be walking to a library or a museum to learn about Greek mythology or the Second World War - or rather than taking a walk, you could just stay at home and soak up all you want about your favorite subject from the internet or from the good old telly. However important informal education is - this will not be our main focus of attention, but our attention will center around formal education - in other words: Schooling in Switzerland.
Private vs. state School
International moms and dads coming to Switzerland will, if having kids in a pre-school or schooling age, have to plan how their kids’ education should be during their Swiss residence. The question that often arises is: should Emma or Roger attend private or public school? How long are we going to stay? What is really the best solution for my kid? What is the cost? And if I choose private, what private school should I choose? These are the most basic questions and these are the questions that we hope to shed some light on.
